The Drip – A Presentation of Gruesome Poetics
The Drip’s “A Presentation of Gruesome Poetics” is a demonstration in modern gritty, grinding death. From the ashes of Washington state, comes The Drip, an onslaught of mechanical dirt feasting on the genre’s uttermost levels of intensity. Newly signed to Relapse Records, The Drip unveil their new EP (Due April 15th) “A Presentation of Gruesome Poetics” sees the band create an oppressive wall of dirty grind, tied in well with an industrialized blackened death stereotype.
Upon first listening to this EP, a few things are instantly recognizable; this wasn’t made for the faint of heart or those looking for a dreamy post rock vibe (the artwork should be enough to make that perfectly clear) and that this twelve minute foray into the world of sonic anger will be on repeat again and again, never to sate the listeners’ internal hatred. Despite the album’s short run times, it’s clear that this Washington based grind set is meant for bigger things. The Drip have set things in motion, now with the backing of Relapse and a quality release under the act’s belt, ‘A Presentation Of Gruesome Poetics’ is only the beginning.
Overall, you can’t be blamed for delving into this release over and over again, if only to understand the potential these guys are showing. Take the album’s opener for example; ‘Catalyst’ crunches all anticipation, counting in even blast-beats and swirling shrieks. The track itself may only play for a matter of two and a half minutes, but it’s an excellent entry into the all encompasing, grunge filled atmosphere that is ‘A Presentation Of Gruesome Poetics’.
